Digital marketing is essential for any business that wants to be taken seriously in this technological age, but if you are a small or solo business, chances are you don’t have the time or budget for every newfangled digital marketing strategy that comes your way.

Fortunately you don’t have to spend every waking moment on your marketing, or pay through the nose for big budget marketing strategies if you want to increase your business visibility and get more leads.

Here are five affordable digital marketing tactics that don’t cost anything and won’t take up too much of your time. Give them a try today and you may be surprised at the results!

  1. Turn your blog posts into YouTube videos. It is possible to do this by simply reading out your blog posts on camera but if you want to really add value you will probably want to create a few graphics to go with what you’re saying. Shorter is often better when it comes to video content so your videos shouldn’t be more than a few minutes each. Any more than that and your audience may lose focus.

  2. Use content curation to bulk up your original content on your blog. Content curation is the process of publishing content produced by other people on your blog (with full accreditation of course!). Think weekly roundups of the top news stories in your industry, or the five funniest posts you’ve read this week or devise some other way you can repackage content from other sources and serve it to your audience in an appealing way. Content curation is also great for building links with other bloggers and industry leaders.

  3. Create a free e-book from your previously published blog posts and use it as a lead generation tool. If you have a few blog posts that you could group together it shouldn’t be too much trouble to create an e-book out of them with a bit of tweaking and the addition of an introduction and conclusion. You can then use the result as an incentive to increase your email signups.

  4. Repurpose your existing content. It may sound like cheating but it’s not really. If you have a great piece of content that your audience loves, why not get more mileage out of it by repurposing? Content repurposing means taking an existing piece of content and repackaging it in some way. For example, you could turn a blog post into an infographic, an e-book into a series of blog posts or an infographic into a YouTube video.

  5. List your business in local directories especially Google My Business, Bing and Yelp. This is a very simple yet highly effective marketing strategy for businesses that want to target customers in their local area.

While you will probably have to spend some time and money on your digital marketing if you want to see earth-shattering results, it is possible to see significant improvements in your marketing results by implementing a few quick and easy strategies that won’t cost you anything or take up too much time.
